What Is CO2 Oil?

What is CO2 oil?

CO2 oil is also referred to as CO2 cannabis oil or CO2 hash oil. It’s the name used for any cannabis concentrate that was made using CO2 as a solvent. There can be many different varieties of cannabis concentrates that were made using CO2 oil. As long as the concentrate was made using CO2 as the solvent, than it is considered CO2 oil, wax, or shatter.

What is CO2?

CO2 is carbon dioxide. When we are talking about cannabis concentrates, CO2 refers to a nonflammable solvent that was used to extract the compounds from the cannabis plant.

How to make CO2 oil?

What IS CO2 Oil?
Making CO2 oil is a long process that should be done by professionals.

Making this oil is a long process.  First, CO2 has to be turned into a liquid, which is done by manipulating the pressure and temperature. Than, the marijuana plant is soaked in the liquid, which strips the cannabinoids and terpenes out of the plant. The plant matter is removed from the liquid, and the CO2 is manipulated once again to turn the CO2 back to a gas. The gas than evaporates, and what’s left is an extremely potent substance made of cannabinoids and terpenes.

How to make shatter with CO2 oil

Shatter refers to a concentrate that is known for it’s thin appearance that closely resembles glass. It gets it’s name because it’s so dainty that if your not careful when handling it, it could break and shatter.

It is possible to make shatter using CO2 extraction methods. The first steps are the same as if you’d make oil or wax, stripping the cannabis plant and soaking it in liquid. But in order to turn it into shatter, the substance is put into a vacuum oven, where it is than spread out over a non-stick surface and cooled until it creates a sheet of shatter.

Is it safe to consume?

What Is CO2 Oil?
The FDA labeled CO2 safe to use for extractions.

CO2 oil is considered safe to consume. CO2 occurs naturally in nature. In fact, our bodies even produce it. It is also considered to be one of the safest non-polar solvents. The FDA labeled it safe for industrial extractions, so it can be considered more safe than extractors with a petroleum base, such as propane or butane. Making CO2 oil should only be done by professionals. We do not recommend trying it at home.
