URBAN LEGEND: Cannabis-Infused Halloween Candy

Cannabis infused halloween candy

New Year, Same Warning

Halloween is right around the corner, so naturally, parents are sure to be in search of any suspect treats finding their way in their kid’s trick-or-treat bags. Including the now common urban legend that dastardly neighbors are just fiending to feed your kids cannabis-infused Halloween candy laced for their very own sick pleasure. Nevertheless, time and time again, this myth has proved to be, well, just a myth. Apparently, every year around this time, local news agencies issue warnings to be in search of cannabis-laced Halloween candy. This is not your typical rusted razor blade infused candy rumors we used to hear back in the day, but rather, a new age problem, to be on the lookout for, as more states continue to legalize both medicinal and recreational cannabis.

North Carolina law enforcement agents were the latest to warn parents to be on the lookout for the candies, because, as Carolina native, Catherine Scrimshaw suggested, the “not a candy”, and “keep out of the reach of children”, warnings on the back of typical CBD infused products may not be enough of a preventative to stop children from eating the candies.

Previous Warnings about cannabis-infused Halloween candy

This is far from a brand new tune sung by local law enforcement agents. Every year towns and cities around the country issue warnings of possible cannabis-infused Halloween candy that could be given to your kids.

Regardless of the frequent warnings, there have been zero, we repeat, ZERO, reported incidents regarding cannabis-laced Halloween candy finding its way into the bags of unsuspecting youths. While it is always a good thing for parents to be diligent about inspecting their kid’s Halloween candy, it appears the likelihood of finding CBD or THC gummies is slim to none.

Obviously, nothing is impossible, but for right now, it seems that cannabis-laced Halloween candy is still just your common urban legend.

Tips on avoiding sketchy Halloween candy

As with any food, parents should be cautious of what their kids are putting into their mouths. So how can you spot a sketchy-looking candy? First of all, it’s important to make sure your kids haven’t received any treats that are not professionally packaged. Homemade brownies, cookies, or candies have no way of being regulated and therefore there is no way to read the ingredients. If your child receives any candy or food that is not in a wrapper with proper packing information, throw it away!
