Despite some popular perceptions, marijuana doesn’t come risk-free. Edibles such as weed gummies or chocolate bars in particular may pose a threat to novice users since they deliver larger doses of THC than inhaling, and, once ingested, the user has little option but to ride it out.
Some of the most common side effects of consuming too much THC from an edible are:
Sooner or later, most individuals who regularly choose to eat edibles will have an unpleasant experience. Unlike smoking marijuana, edibles may take up to two hours to take effect, so a frequent error is for an individual to get impatient for the high to kick in and eat more.
Weed Gummies Doses
Nowadays, most lawful states require edibles to be easily divisible into smaller doses, such as sections of a candy bar, or individual weed gummies, to avoid accidental overdoses.
The security advice is “start low and go slow” to avoid taking too much. Jordan Tishler, a Boston-area doctor with a cannabis-focused clinic, urges 5mg of THC to begin, and taking low doses for several days prior to escalating. Some states and companies consider 10mg the standard, which is supposed to be roughly equal to a single drink, in terms of intoxication. Even if you are a frequent marijuana smoker, do not eat an entire 100mg candy bar if you have never tried an edible before.
If you do overdo it, the best treatment does not involve medicine. Instead, get to a calm, safe area, unwind, have a trustworthy person remain with you and perhaps hold your hands. You would be surprised how much a little TLC helps.
Bonni Goldstein, a cannabis physician in southern California and a medical adviser to Weedmaps, a Yelp-like site for finding dispensaries, writes: “First, and most important: talk down yourself. You’re not going to stop breathing and you are not going to die… Try to take your mind off it. Watch tv for the distraction, or lie down and take a nap.”
Tishler cautions against taking anything to take care of it, regardless of what the world wide web advocates. “CBD will not work. Chewing peppercorns is utterly harmful. Some commercial products exist but are not necessarily secure.”
For a non-medical treatment, you can always watch some Will Ferrell movies. Watch two and you’ll fall asleep.
