What Is CBDA?

What Is CBDA?

We’ve all heard of CBD (cannabidiol) which is a cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant. But what about CBDA? What is CBDA and what is the difference between CBDA and CBD?

CBD vs. CBDA

CBD and CBDA are both chemical compounds found in the marijuana plant.

CBD has been praised for it’s therapeutic benefits and has been known to treat anxiety, inflammation, epilepsy, headaches, and a bunch of other common ailments.

CBDA is not as well known by the general public, but recently it has attracted some well deserved attention. So what exactly is it?

What Is CBDA?

What is CBDA?

CBDA is the precursor for CBD. All of the major cannabinoids in the marijuana and hemp plants first develop as cannabigerolic acid, or CBGA.

After that, plant enzymes unique to each cannabis strain convert the CBGA into some varying combination of the three major cannabinoid precursor compounds: tetrahydrocannabinolic acid (THCA), cannabichromenic acid (CBCA), cannabidiolic acid (CBDA).

Does CBDA turn into CBD?

Once CBDA has been created, thermal decarboxylation takes place and it’s than converted into CBD. During this process, heat causes the molecule to loose it’s acidic carboxyl group. This occurs when the cannabis gets heated up when it’s smoked or vaped, or it can happen slowly if the plant is sitting in a warm room.

What Is CBDA?

How can you ingest it?

There is alot of CBDA found in raw cannabis, but marijuana smokers are not actually ingesting much of it since it’s converted into CBD during smoking or vaping. If your looking to consume CBDA, you’ll want to use a cannabis product that does not involve heating it, such as creams or topicals. Some people even juice raw cannabis.

Potential benefits

It has the potential to be a great treatment for anxiety and nausea. During a 2013 study, CBDA was found to be a thousand times more powerful than CBD in attaching to a specific serotonin receptor linked to anti-nausea and anti-anxiety effects.

It has also been shown to act as a powerful anti-inflammatory agent, as it’s molecular structure closely resembles another common nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug.
