Why is 710 DAB Day?
July 10th or 710 Day is Dab Day! This year, Dab Day is July 10th 2021 which is ironically on a Shatterday (Saturday). Like many numerical and sometimes humorous code words, the history of 710 stems from the use of a classroom calculator. Remember when you used to type in your most used numbers that made your friends chortle when you turned your calculator upside down? One blog friendly word example would be, 0.7734 which upside down on a calculator reads “HELLO” (ߤ↋??O). Upon finding other variations of upside down calculator code, students at some point discovered 710 upside down read “OIL” ( 0⇂?). Bringing this knowledge in from former school days, reminiscing dabbers dubbed 7/10 the official day of dabbing with concentrates, extracts, and oils.
Other stories mention the birth of 710 stemming from a different method. Upon opening gas tank tops to fill up, many drivers noticed the gas label read “OIL”. With the cap hanging upside down while filling up, drivers noticed it appeared to look like the numbers 710. No matter how this magical number code was discovered, what really matters is that it is used to bring together the cannabis community in a new and more inclusive way.
When Did 710 Become a Thing?
For those in the know, 710 Day has been around for many years. 710 Day was eventually popularized in the mainstream around 2012, thanks to the ever-expanding nature of social media. Many popular memes spread far and wide bringing the cannabis culture closer together.
What is a 710 Friend?
710 friendly or a 710 friend is someone in the cannabis community who is a part of the vapes and concentrates circle. There is a small community of concentrate users who prefer this style of consuming cannabis, making the lifestyle and language of 710 a way to communicate in order to help connect with others who share the same interests. You can find members of the 710 society online using hashtags such as: #710society, #dabbersdaily, #dabstagram, #dabs, and #shatter.
420 and 710
When you see 420 in a community, you know that represents either the use of marijuana or the acceptance of others using it. Like 420, 710 can also refer to having a cannabis friendly person, lifestyle, or business establishment. Where 710 differs from 420 is not only the method of smoke-free consumption, but indicates the amount consumed. Concentrates have a significantly higher amount of THC when compared to smoking a joint. 420 smokers can have an average THC of anywhere from 10%-30% (anything over 20% being extremely high), however dabbers consume over 90% THC.
