What are cannabis terpenes?

Terpenes are aromatic oils that are responsible for producing flavors like berry, mint, pine, and citrus. They are situated in the same glands that produce cannabinoids like CBD and THC.

How are terpenes made?

The original purpose of cannabis terpenes began as the plant adapted to its surroundings and used the strong scents as a way to repel predators and lure pollinators like bees. Factors such as climate, weather, age, fertilizers, soil type all contribute to the developments of terpenes.

There are over 100 terpene varieties.

There are more than 100 different terpenes that have been identified in the marijuana plant. Every strain has it’s own terpene combination. For example, a strain like Blueberry will have a unique blueberry, fruity smell.

What do terpenes do?

Aside from producing the aromatic scents that we all know and love, cannabis terpenes also provide therapeutic benefits like their counterparts, THC and CBD.
