US Senate Opens The Way Of Cannabis Research

A bipartisan bill to remove the obstacle that stymies scientific study into the medical qualities of cannabis and cannabidiols received unanimous support from the U.S. Senate.

According to a press statement published Thursday by California Democrat Sen. Dianne Feinstein, the Senate adopted S. 253 on a voice vote. The bill, which would allow the US Food and Drug Administration to examine cannabis products, is now being considered by the US House of Representatives.

Senators Chuck Grassley of Iowa and Brian Schatz of Hawaii co-sponsored S. 253, and both praised the bill’s accomplishmentSenator Grassley stated that “the bipartisan bill holds massive importance to better understanding the cannabis and its potential benefits. He also underlined the fact that  It will support the FDA to analyze CBD and medical marijuana products in a safer and more responsible manner so that the American people may make an informed decision about whether or not to use them in the future based on scientific evidence.

The Senate bill comes almost a year after the US Drug Enforcement Administration hinted at loosening cannabis research limits.
