Anyone who has been too high can agree that it is quite an unpleasant feeling. Maybe your edible kicked in a little too late, or you tried to impress your friends and took one too many hits of that joint. There are tons of reasons why you may have gotten too high, but once it sets in, the experience is enough to turn off even the most seasoned cannabis smoker.
Many of people wonder how long the intense high will last. Well, this depends on a few different factors. Typically, the higher potency the cannabis product, the longer the high will last. Cannabis concentrates typically contain higher amounts of THC than flowers, so it may be easier to overdo it when vaping or dabbing. The average cannabis high can last anywhere between 30 minutes to 2 hours at its peak, with some lingering effects still felt for a period of time after.
Here’s how to sober up when you’re too high
1. Don’t Panic
The natural thing to do in this situation is to panic. Unlike the very intense feelings you are feeling, you are FINE. Remember these words.. Everything. Will. Be Ok. The feeling will not last forever.
2. Drink water and eat a snack
Don’t forget to hydrate! Drinking water will help alleviate cottonmouth and will keep you focused on the simple exercise of drinking. Some people find that eating a light snack like nuts or fruit also helps them feel distracted from the uncomfortable feeling of being too high.
3. Listen to your body and rest
If laying down on the couch with a blanket seems like the right thing to do, then do just that. Sometimes falling asleep is the best remedy for curing an intense high. If you can manage to turn your brain off and get some rest, then consider yourself lucky.
4. Take a cool shower
Cold showers are known to wake you up. The soothing feeling of cool water on your skin can calm you down and relax your mind. If you can’t make it into the shower, then try splashing your face with cold water.
5. Eat black peppercorns
Yep. You read it right. Black peppercorns have shown to provide almost instant relief to people who have gotten too high and are suffering from paranoia or anxiety. Chew on a few black peppercorns, or add some pack pepper into a dish and eat it.
6. Ingest some form of CBD
Studies have shown that ingesting CBD when you’re too high can actually reduce paranoia caused by THC. A recent study, published in the Journal of Psychopharmacology in 2013 found that when CBD was consumed alongside THC, it appeared to lessen the adverse effects of anxiety and paranoia. Grab a CBD pen, CBD flower, or CBD oil.
7. Find a distraction
Nothing is worse than sitting there super stoned, just thinking about the fact that you’re super stoned. This can make you feel anxious and paranoid and is the last thing you want to do when you’re too high. Instead, try distracting yourself with a small activity. We’re not talking about going for a jog or anything, but try watching a funny video, talking with a friend, coloring or drawing, or playing a game on your phone. Just do something that can take your mind off of the fact that you’re too high.
How long does it take to sober up from weed?
After ingesting cannabis in any form, how long you stay high depends on a variety of factors: consumption method, dosage, and unique individual variables that could vary for each person. In general, the higher the potency in the cannabis product, the longer you will stay high. Concentrates such as wax and vapes usually have the highest potency, with flower and edibles following behind. Most times, it will take longer to sober up if you have dabbed than if you smoked a bowl. That being said, everyone’s body is different and can react differently. If you are a new smoker, then you’re going to stay high a lot longer than someone who smokes every day, even if you smoked a few hits and they took a few dabs.
On average, a high from cannabis lasts anywhere from thirty minutes to two hours, although the effects may linger for a period of time afterward. Some people have experienced a much more intense long-lasting high, so it really does vary from person to person. If you feel like you have gotten too high, try implementing one of these tips we mentioned above!
